A short miniseries that breaks down and explores key techniques and 'tricks' used in level design through video game case studies. Each episode demonstrates an understanding of design principles and teaches viewers how these concepts are applied, making them accessible for educational purposes. The series has also been featured on Level-Design.org, a reference site for level design professionals and enthusiasts.
EPISODE ONE
In episode one, we look at Boundaries, what types there are and for what purpose they used for in video games.
EPISODE TWO
In episode two, we look at three different Techniques of Architecture, that are applied to level design and identify them being used in video games.
EPISODE THREE
In the third episode, we look at signposting in video games, and see how these 'tricks' are being used to guide players, and visually communicate with them about the level's design.
EPISODE FOUR
In this fourth and bonus episode we look at how level design techniques are used to teach players gameplay mechanics through the games world.
